We're on the lookout for enthusiastic people to join us at Vue HQ for 1 month (2 - 3 days a week) to learn about the commercial world of photography and give us a hand with all our photographers' portfolios! If you think you fit the bill, take a look at our 'Internship' section on the website for more info. Send us your CV and a little bit about why we should choose you to production@vue-us.com
Fave 5 #3
That time again and this month we've got a bit app-crazy so we've decided to share our fave 5 arty iPhone apps
Here they are....
- Art Guide - great for finding the latest exhibitions and museums
- Doodle Buddy - for a bit of finger-painting fun
- Snapseed - great app for photo-editing
- Cinemagram - animating small portions of our photos made us chuckle at lunchtime
- Flipboard - an excellent magazine-style app that you can personalise
Featured - Gareth Morgans - Knorr Student Chef of the Year
Cooking up a storm
Just recently, Gareth was approached about being the prize for the 2012 Knorr Student Chef of the Year awards. Yup, that's right - the winner won Gareth, or at least a half days photoshoot with him...and Gareth was more than happy to oblige.
The competition, which is in its 15th year and the biggest competition of its kind in Ireland, saw ten finalists battle it out in a tightly fought two hour cook off at the Cork Institute of Technology. But it was Shane Deane from Kilbrittain who finally took the top spot with his dish of pan-fried fillet of Gurnard with gazpacho tagliatelle and clams for starter and seared loin of wild venison with Waterfall farm vegetables, nettle and wild garlic essence for his main course (sounds pretty darn good, doesn't it!).
Both dishes, which had to use at least two Knorr products, were very much in line with this year's theme of 'Irish Fusion; and received rare reviews from the judging panel.

So onto the big shoot day. Rather then simply going to a straightforward photo shoot, Gareth wanted to give Shane a bit more of an insight into the world of food photography. With the help of food stylist Kim Morphew, Gareth talked Shane through the role of the food photographer, the food stylist, prop stylist and art director, to really give him a true understanding of what's involved in this kind of shoot.
In the Month that was...April
Despite the April showers and many lunches spent in doors keeping warm and dry we've had a great month...
Helen was...celebrating her birthday by going to her favourite restaurant The Pink Giraffe in Oxford, and a trip with friends to Brighton. Saw the Dulwich Ukuelele Club at The Prince Albert Brixton, viewing the Eve Arnold exhibition at Art Sensus Gallery and accepting her award at the Sony World Photography Awards!
Michelle was...dusting off her racer and cycling around Richmond park on a rare sunny afternoon, scouring antique shops for furniture to upcycle, buying a water butt because of the hosepipe ban (for it to then continuously rain!) Fell more in love with instagram and booked flights to California for the festive period with the possibility of Christmas dinner in Las Vegas!

News - Last Vue shout out to Helen's Last Meals
We know, we know, we've been banging on about Helen's 'Last Meals' images quite a bit just recently, what with them being nominated for a Sony World Photography award, featured in the BJP and then going on to WIN the still life category at the awards ceremony last week. But the excitement just keeps growing. So here's the latest....the images were featured in the Guardian magazine this weekend!
Photography and the Art World
Vue had an outing last week to the Saatchi gallery for a talk on 'Photography and the Art World'. It's always great to stimulate the creative brain cells.
The talk kicked off the major exhibition 'Photography Out Of Focus' which is showing until 22nd July. This is the first photography exhibition the Saatchi Gallery has held since 2001.
The talk looked to tackle the issues that continue to surround photography as an art form - why is photography often regarded as less skilful and less important than other forms of art? Why is it often looked down upon by the art world?
